"We're in this together..."

"My father was 80 years old when we watched 'Flags of Our Fathers' together. The film chronicles the story of soldiers' struggles and sacrifices at Iwo Jima – many so young to be willing to serve community and country. As we watched, it struck me that in 1945, he had been a young cadet, training to be a Navy pilot in the States, just like these brave young men. I had always been proud of and grateful for his service, but in this moment it really hit home with me - I wanted to make a difference. I began volunteering at the VA, helping out wherever I could be of service. Home For Dinner became a program that was strictly a way to say ‘thank you’ for all the service and sacrifice, a very simple idea that could one day be repeated in any county of any state." - Beth Hickman, founder, Home For Dinner
